Everyone that drives this far just has to walk along the Old Seven Mile Bridge. Nothing is more special than this lovely classic piece of history turned now into a pedestrian bridge. On the sun calm wind days, the water is glass and you can see sting rays, turtles, and nurse sharks if you take your time and look over the side every minute or two. Any number of marine critters will swim by in the waters below, so it is all about timing and visibility. The lack of bathrooms is one thing to remember on this long walk not so long bicycle ride. Marathon is loaded with must do things.
A note on the parking lot issue, as it can be full. Thank goodness for the Friends of old Seven, as they saved the bridge. There is parking just north of the bridge gulfside at mile marker forty seven in Marathon, plus overflow parking at the Pigeon Key Visitors Center. Everyone loves to enjoy the bike ride views. You take the Boat Ride for a guided tour. We prefer to ride bikes to the island and pay the admission once on Pigeon Key. Some people pay and go by boat.
