This year we went to Key West in July and thought it was just the best time to go. First, it is the Hemingway Party Month which has a big celebration weekend each year. That is a very big plus that we did not expect. The water temperatures are perfect in the ocean and swimming pools in July. You can dive right into the water without any cold water concerns. The scuba and reef trips are in full speed mode in the summer. Tickets are cheaper, and so will be your hotel room.
The summer is also the time to drink the tasty frozen cocktails at the Duval Bars. My picks are the Bahama Mama (Fresh orange Juice, pineapple juice, banana liqueur, dark rum, ice, served smoothie style) or the classic Mile Marker Zero Sunset (Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, grenadine, vodka and lemonade, and it is also served smoothie style).
The look-a-like show is a good one. The contestants go through preliminary rounds to try to make as a finalists. They start with a couple of hundred to the final 12 for the big event show. It is a hoot.
