Entrance to the Seaport

Entrance to the Seaport

In the 1890s Shipwrecks and sponging had grown to employ thousands both with the fleet and at jobs ashore. So many ships, divers, and ship wreckers have made this harbor home. Sponges, giant sea turtles, shrimp and fish are the types of cargo that would pass through bight harbor weekly. The location where the best bars in Key West are located has a neat history. Throughout the city's colorful history the historic Key West bight has had a tradition of bringing the bounty of the seas ashore.
