Advice on Important Features to Consider when Buying Trolling Motors for Boats?
Question?

Q: Cool day. We really want to start to do more fishing and exploration in the skinny waters of Florida. Mainly we trailer our boat up and down the coastline from Boca Grande down to Key West. With very little knowledge of Trolling Motors, can you provide me with some advice on key features to keep in mind when buying a boat trolling motor? All right now, that is my pending dilemma.

All right now, a big thumbs up. What a selection of Q&As.

A: Come on in, certainly, we will answer this. This is a way to go at this. You should take a methodical approach, and understand each of the key elements. Then you can iron out your preferences, so you buy a trolling motor that will serve you well for many hours on the water. Alrighty, a correct way to try. Ready, set, go.

Mounting: To protect your trolling motor, you will need a good mounting system. You may need a mount that can be locked and/or quick-release removed for security purposes. Breakaway mounts are popular, with the added protection if you hit the bottom.

Power: As measure by volts, with 12, 24, and 36-volt systems available. If you plan to spend many hours on the water, the higher endurance of higher volt systems might be best for you.

Propulsion: The Thrust of an engine translates into the propulsion. Take this measurement and vary your selection by the boat's total weight, including equipment and passenger weights.

Placement: It starts with the intended placement of the motor itself. Both bow mount and transom mount models are available. Along with the shaft length, your choice depends on what fits best with your boat model.
Controls: Remote controlled motors are very cool, but your boating style might work just fine with either foot pedals or hand controls.

All right now, everyone gets better with practice. We only want the best.
