Ask Your Question?
How to Prepare My Boat and Trailer for the Pending Storm?
Question?

Q: Any thoughts or opinions would be too cool. Just preparing a little bit for next week's storm. I don't really have a garage to keep it in at this point. It would be really good to make it through the system with out any damage to either the boat or trailer. I guess chaining it up to a tree might work out well. A tough one for me.

Adios amigo.

Answer!

A: Ahoy-Hoy! I have been through similar storms with my boat sitting on my trailer, outside next to my house. No longer though, now it is in the garage. I would rather put the car outside! Seriously, there are things you can do. I will jot a few down below. Alright, there you go.

If not already, tip up the bow of your boat.

Take off and store the bimini tops and canvas.

Certainly remove the rear drain plug for back-up drainage.

Use lots of bungee and heavy duty tie downs to secure the boat and trailer together.

Pull out everything that is not permanent to the boat itself.

Find a location to park the boat/trailer where it has a break from the expected wind flow. Ideally, also use heavy duty tie downs to secure the trailer to non-movable objects.

Reducing the air pressure of the tires makes it harder to be blown around.
Be sure your boat's batteries are fully charged, thereby your bilge float switch can be left on throughout the storm.

All right now, cool to be of service. Perfect way to end the day.
