The locals refer to Anna Maria Island's treasure as both Cortez and Bradenton Beach. With soft white sand and crystal clean water, the beach has a lengthy feel to it, with long views up and down the coastline. It is easy to get to. It's just north of Cortez Bridge, on the south end of Anna Maria Island, and west of Bradenton Florida. I love a beach where your car stays cool, and here you can park in the shade of the tall Australian Pines. Within walking distance of cold drinks and lunch spots, this is a quiet and cozy island treasure.
Cortez Beach
| A Saturday afternoon at Bradenton Beach. This is a view looking north up the coastline, along the Gulf side of Anna Maria Island. | |
| The water is typically calm with light surf. The life guards have the best view of all. | |
| This is a family beach, with kids who really know how to play and enjoy themselves. | |
| Skim boards are a big hit with youthful athletes. It is fun to watch them eye the water, start the run, and board toss. Then they jump on the board, and glide on an inch of water. Then one or two seconds later, splash! | |
| Remnants of days-gone-by at Bradenton Beach, as old piers jet out of the water. | |
| Nature borders the beach in the form of Australian Pines, Sea Grapes, and more. | |
| You will have a lot of room here to find your own private spot. | |
| You will love the colorful display of kites, umbrellas, towels, and rafts which enhance the beauty of the white sand and blue waters. | |
| Here is a view of the sand dunes which are centered between the parking areas and the beach. | |
| The beach area seems untouched from growth and modernization. It is just as beautiful as I remember it from my days as a young child. |
